When you’re selling an asset with a strong visual element, try setting up a “Selfie Spot” where visitors can get a cool photo to post on their social media feeds. The road company for Wicked is doing this brilliantly.
It’s in Birmingham for a two-week run, and every person I know posted this same shot. Outside the venue, they put these oversized posters on the columns. There were probably a dozen spots, and people were standing in lines of 10 or more for each one — just begging for an opportunity to help promote the show. Tons of free publicity for a show that wasn’t quite sold out. I usually don’t “check in” at venues, because I don’t want to advertise that I’m not home, but in this case, the wife and I played along.
OK, your auction isn’t Wicked. But auctioneers sell interesting things all the time. Even if it’s too late to attract more bidders, it gives a sense of enthusiasm about your event and spreads that to others. And it gets your name out there. Find an asset that shows well. Be sure and put your logo and web site in the photo.
