COLUMBIA CITY, Indiana (Jan. 25, 2016) — The home and related real estate of heart surgery pioneer Dr. John Norman Pittman sold at auction Saturday, January 21, for $1,997,600. Schrader Real Estate and Auction Company marketed the properties in cooperation with Tucker Auction Services and F.C. Tucker Company Inc.
The properties sold included a large contemporary home in Carmel, a party barn, a swimming pool, and a tennis court, as well as a property in Zionsville with a log cabin and stocked pond.
“One of the challenges in selling this real estate was that there were few comparable properties on which to base a meaningful asking price. The court handling the family’s estate matters decided an auction would be the best solution. We had a great crowd and great competition. Members of the family were grateful afterward,” said R.D. Schrader, president of the auction company.
The properties were offered in three tracts and sold to three separate buyers. The 5.7-acre tract with the large home on West 106th Street in Carmel sold for $782,800. The adjacent 2.7 acres with the party barn sold for $458,350. The third property, located in Zionsville, sold for $736,450.
Upcoming auctions for Schrader include the offering of approximately 303 acres of farmland in Laporte, Indiana (on Monday, January 30), and 260 acres in Blackford County.
