REMINGTON, Virginia (February 28, 2017) – In 1999, Linda and Bill Willoughby had a vision for creating an equestrian center, event venue and inn on the onetime Civil War battleground known as Kelly’s Ford, along the Rappahannock River. Today, the Inn at Kelly’s Ford has become a prominent venue for weddings and other special events on the 138 acre property, and the Kelly’s Ford Equestrian Center is a firmly established hub of equine activity, with regular shows, boarding, training and other services.
The center, created on the site of the 1863 Battle at Kelly’s Ford, draws enthusiasts for its boarding, training and regular events, including seven Virginia Horse Show Association Hunter/Jumper shows already booked for 2017. The property offers an 11,200-square-foot indoor riding arena, two show arenas, stables, and a large inventory of equestrian related assets.
Bill Willoughby – formerly the President of Capital Realty Investors (CRI) and CRIIMI MAE Inc. – died in 2016, and Mrs. Willoughby has decided to sell the property.
“Bill and I wanted to create something at Kelly’s Ford that would reflect our love of horses and history. The result was a combined center that included four outdoor arenas, a heated indoor arena, a six-level cross country course and miles of scenic trails for riding,” said Mrs. Willoughby. “The other side of the property has an inn built around the Kelly family’s historic home, a fine dining restaurant, a pub, and a venue large enough to accommodate events with hundreds of people,” she said.
The property has an asking price of $5 million, according to Stephen Karbelk, team leader of Realty Markets, a Century 21 New Millennium team.
“The buyer will have a portfolio of businesses perfectly set up for cross promotion. The inn and cottages provide accommodations for those visiting for equestrian events. The equestrian facilities provide opportunities for guests. There are even facilities for tubing, kayaking and canoeing on the Rappahannock,” said Karbelk.
Mrs. Willoughby plans to live in a farmhouse she owns near the property.
