SASABE, Arizona (Sept. 21, 2016) — Rancho de la Osa has hosted a long line of presidents, movie stars and famous authors in its long and storied history. And now the historic ranch will be offered for sale to the highest bidder on Thursday, October 20, with Albert Burney Auctioneers conducting the event.
The ranch’s guests have included Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, authors Margaret Mitchell and Zane Gray, and film stars John Wayne, Cesar Romero and Joan Crawford. But its current owners, Veronica and Richard Schultz, who operated the 239-acre ranch as a resort for 20 years, have retired and decided to sell it at auction.
“It’s been an incredible experience to own such a place with so much history, but it’s time to put in the hands of someone who can continue to enjoy it as we did for so many years,” said Mrs. Schultz. “Over the last two decades, we restored many of the older buildings, furnished the guest rooms and Hacienda with Mexican antiques, and hosted thousands of guests,” she said.
The ranch’s history stretches back to 1700, when part of the land was established as a mission. “The ranch has served primarily as a country inn/dude ranch or cattle ranch since the 1920s, but is also suitable as a wellness center, corporate retreat, equestrian center or event venue,” said Warren Ward, president of the auction company. The ranch has 10 buildings, including the Hacienda (main house) that has been featured in numerous magazines, including Architectural Digest.
Auction staff will be available to accommodate inspections from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily from Oct. 15 to Oct 20. The auction will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the property.
