LAKE, Michigan (July 22, 2015) — Howard Doss’s 616-acre Clare County hunting retreat has been in his family since the 1940s, but now he’s selling it at auction, with Sheridan Realty and Auction Company marketing the property and conducting the online auction.
“This has always been part of my life. I’ve hunted here and enjoyed the scenery, but it’s time to let it go,” said Doss, a member of the research faculty at Michigan State University’s school of medicine and a past farm safety educator. “Our family over the years has chosen to keep the land in its natural state, and that has preserved its natural beauty,” he said.
Doc & Tom Creek, which runs through the land, also has helped attract deer, turkey and other game. “The land has produced quality deer every year, even though Mr. Doss limits his hunting to the very short rifle season,” said Doug Sheridan, of the auction company.
“It’s not every day you see this much unspoiled land right in the center of the state, about a half hour from Cadillac, less than 80 miles from Traverse City and a 90-minute drive from Lansing. The 3,442-square-foot home is full of interesting details, including rustic siding and an ornate bar and massive stone fireplace,” said Sheridan. The home, originally built in 1908, will include the bar, a pool table and other furnishings.
Sheridan personnel will conduct open houses at the home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 22, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, September 13. Bidding is already under way and will continue until 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 15.
“People will be able to view and inspect the land and home thoroughly, then bid from their phone, tablet or computer at their convenience. People can research it at www.sheridanauctionservice.com or call our office at 517-676-9800,” said Sheridan.
Sheridan Realty & Auction Company, headquartered in Mason, Michigan, founded in 1977, uses live and online auctions to sell homes, land, commercial property, farm machinery, purebred livestock, oil and gas lease rights, and other assets.
